What is NASCAR racing?

NASCAR racing or NASCAR, an acronym for National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, is the largest sanctioning body of motorsports in the United States. The three top series under the NASCAR banner are the NEXTEL Cup, the Busch Series and the Craftsman Truck Series. NASCAR also oversees Regional Racing and the Dodge Weekly Series. NASCAR sanctions over 1,500 races at over 100 tracks in 38 states, Canada, and Mexico.

When most fans speak of NASCAR racing they are referring to the NEXTEL Cup Series because it features the best and the most recognized stock-car drivers.

NASCAR racing has grown to become the second most popular professional sport in terms of television ratings inside the U.S., ranking behind only the NFL (National Football League).

Internationally, NASCAR races are broadcast in over 150 countries. It holds 17 of the top 20 attended sporting events in the U.S., and has over 100 million fans who purchase over $2 billion in annual licensed product sales. With fans buying up all that NASCAR racing merchandise and memorabilia it would be difficult to find a fan at a race not wearing some kind of NASCAR apparel.

NASCAR fans are considered the most brand-loyal in all of sports, and as a result, many Fortune 500 companies sponsor NASCAR drivers and events more than any other sport. Studies reveal that more than 75% of NASCAR fans use the sponsors' products.

NASCAR's headquarters are located in Daytona Beach, Florida, and maintains offices in North Carolina, New York, California, Arkansas, with international offices in Mexico, and Canada.
